Wheelhouse Cycle is Ottawa’s premier indoor cycling experience. The lights come low, the music gets high...the energy is ELECTRIC. This is NOT your average spin class.
I stole that first paragraph right off their website - when a business has such a strong brand of its own, it can be a daunting task to contribute to that identity.
Lucky for me, I’ve been working at Wheelhouse for a while, and riding there a lot longer. I had a good sense of what the brand is all about, and working closely with head instructor / managing partner Laura Moran helped me hone in on the end result that you see here.
I spent years following New York City photographers on social media, and watching their incredible shots of the city.
In May 2019 I had a chance to head down to NYC and experience the life and energy of the city myself. These are just some of my favourite moments from that trip.
Charlotte is a beautiful wine and cocktail bar located above Pure Kitchen’s Elgin location. Any picture you take at Charlotte is instantly recognizable - the semi-private lounge areas, vintage furniture, and soft lighting will look familiar to anyone who’s been there. Charlotte was clearly designed with visual appeal in mind, and every corner of the space is highly Instagrammable.
Building a new photoset for Charlotte’s distinctive Instagram page, we looked to highlight the lounges, the expertly-crafted cocktails, and comfortable atmosphere. Matching a client’s existing visual identity is always a challenge, and this was no different. Charlotte’s aesthetic is a departure from the vibrant colours and lighter tones in most of my work, and playing with a new style was a great opportunity to flex my creative muscles.
Wheelhouse Cycle is all about community - and few events represent that spirit more than the annual Wheelhouse cheer station on the Ottawa Race Weekend course.
Wheelhouse staff, instructors, and riders came together to put on a show that was hands down the best cheer station on the half-marathon route, and these are some of my favourite moments from that morning!
Elisa Kurylowicz is a social media manager and podcaster based in Ottawa.
Her show Elisa Unfiltered is about life - the challenges, opportunities, and experiences that it presents, and the ways we can learn to make the best of each day.
This fall-inspired photoshoot in Gatineau Park was a dream come true - the forecasted thunderstorm held off, and we made some really beautiful pictures at the very peak of the season’s fall colours.
Since I had already done a winter-themed couples photoshoot with Aprile and Nathan in early 2018, it was only natural we would follow up with a fall-themed shoot for their recent engagement.
This experience was a really solid reminder of how much I had grown as a photographer over 2018 - my use of the available light and location, more refined editing, and more creative posing are a testament to the work I’ve put in during the intervening months.
I’m glad I overcame my initial hesitance to do couples’ photos for these two because I can’t express how special it was to be a part of this, and being able to deliver these photos was an absolute joy.
The Westin Ottawa invited a group of local photographers to one of their rooftop patios for the launch of their 2019 SkateWESTIN program, which rents skates out for use on the Rideau Canal Skateway and donates all proceeds to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Unearthed was Nina Marchewka’s first exhibition of her Raku pottery, held at The Shop in Hintonburg. I was thrilled to cover the opening night of the exhibition and provide Nina with a photoset for future events.
I knew going in that I wasn’t going to do the artwork justice in a photograph - I settled instead for capturing the atmosphere of the event, the creative displays, and the visitors’ interactions with the pieces.
Self Love Mom is an amazing new project by Dr. Kristy Lewis, and I was thrilled to work with her again to create a whole new set of visuals to match this new brand.
SLM is all about providing a resource for mothers to make time for themselves, so this collection features warmer tones and more lifestyle-focused shots, with a visual style distinct from Kristy’s main website.
Working with an established brand like Pure Kitchen was an exciting prospect - I had the chance to show off my own signature style, while staying within the parameters of the recognizable brand they’ve crafted.
This gallery is a selection of my favourite photos from four shoots across Pure Kitchen’s locations in Centretown, Westboro, and Kanata.
Michelle Precourt is a recruitment expert and coach based in Ottawa. She works with clients on every aspect of the job search, including resume writing, interview skills, kickstarting a new career, and even the stress of the job hunt.
As you can tell, there are many aspects to Michelle’s offerings, and we worked together to come up with the right imagery for all of them. Over the course of two short photoshoots, we created a whole set of photos to furnish her new website.
Erin Bidlake is an Ottawa-based yoga teacher, teacher trainer, and (most recently) a death doula. We worked together to come up with ideas for photos that could represent all the skills and experience she brings to the table.
A major focus throughout this photoshoot was ensuring that the photos seemed real - most of these photos were unposed. Erin brings a very playful demeanour to her work, and all I had to do was sit back and document the way she interacted with her environment.

Full Moon Yoga is one of the many large outdoor yoga events you’ll find in Ottawa over the summer. After a series of fortunate events, the July edition was moved into the TD Place Stadium, which provided an amazing setting for the class.
Brittany Gordon is a yoga teacher, registered nutritionist, and personal trainer. Her passion for healthy living and wellness education pretty much makes her my ideal client.
This photoshoot focused mostly on the nutrition side of her business, creating a photo set for use on her social media channels.
Couples photos aren’t generally a part of my wheelhouse, but when my friends Aprile and Nathan wanted me to do a photoshoot with them, it was hard to say no. As you can see from the photos, we definitely had our fair share of fun along the way!
As part of an online rebranding and the launch of a new website, I worked with Dr. Kristy Lewis to come up with a photo set that matches her revamped website.
As a staff member at Rama Lotus Yoga Centre, I had the opportunity to create content for the yoga studio's marketing alongside some truly wonderful yogis.
